Last June, Sigma Alpha Epsilon was booted after a member turned up at a hospital emergency room with a blood-alcohol level nearly six times the legal limit for driving. However, an 18-year-old ASU student died in April from a fall from a balcony after attending a party sponsored by the banned fraternity. In December, the school revoked Alpha Epsilon Pi's recognition for hazing.

The letter from ASU details a series of what university officials say are violations of the university's Student Code of Conduct, including underage drinking and off-campus behavior that presents a danger or risk. Sigma Chi President Anthony Gurule did not return a call seeking comment. Revoking recognition means the chapter can't recruit members or hold meetings or fundraisers on campus. All chapter functions and operations will end June 4. University officials sent the fraternity a letter this week, revoking the chapter's recognition as of May 6. Sigma Chi is one of four fraternities banned by the school in the past year. Arizona State University revoked recognition of another long-standing fraternity, Sigma Chi, after a series alcohol violations that began in August and continued through the school year.
